The youth from Mostar said – “Eliminate violence against women”

Youth Power and members of the “Budi Muško Klub Mostar” organized a street action called “It’s not her fault, I’m here for her” on the occasion of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism – Elimination of Violence against Women. Street action was held on Stari Most in Mostar on November 26, 2020. The aim of the action was to raise citizens’ awareness of the prevention of violence against women.

Citizens of Mostar who were passing through the old part of the city today had the opportunity to see a large banner that was on the Old Bridge with the inscription “It’s not her fault, I’m here for her.” 30 young members of the “Budi Muško Klub” tried to point out to the citizens of Mostar that we are all responsible as a society when it comes to violence, and that we should all react together when we see violence and work to prevent it.

Every year, Youth Power regularly marks 16 days of activism with various street actions, online campaigns and workshops, and this year they decided to use a big banner to start this global campaign, they wanted to send a message to the city of Mostar that violence is not the solution, that every possible form of violence should be eliminated and that we should create a world where violence is not the answer to solve a problem.

Salko Sakoč, project assistant on the Young Men  Initiative project, said that this action was implemented as part of the Young Men Initiative program, which has been implemented by the NGO Youth Power for many years.

“Today’s action was implemented as part of the Young Men Initiative program, as well as all activities that we have prepared for this global campaign 16 days of activism, which lasts until December 10. The street action was created by the members of the “Budi Muško Klub” Mostar, who have been working for many years on the promotion of gender equality and prevention of violence, and today together they decided to send a message to the citizens of Mostar that we should all work on elimination of violence against women.” – said Sakoč

The global campaign, which runs from November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day, calls everyone to put an end to all forms of violence against women.

The activity was realized within the project Young Men Initiative II (YMI): “Promoting healthier lifestyles among young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina by challenging gender stereotypes II”, which is supported by the Government of Switzerland, OAK Foundation, Austrian Development Agency and CARE International Bosnia and Herzegovina.
