Online conference “Types of media and media literacy”

Youth Power organized an online conference “Types of media and media literacy” on January 29, 2021. with the aim of educating the participants about what media literacy means, what types of media we have today and how to fight against fake news. The conference was organized as part of the ACT project – Artist Create Together.

Our lecturers Gabrijela Arapović, Ismir Hero and Nahla Muradbašić explained to us all the most important things about this topic. According to our lecturers, it is important to read the text critically, to re-examine the credibility of the stated information, contrary to the reading of the text itself and the unconditional acceptance of the facts. One of the most important tools in the fight against fake news and misinformation is the development of media competencies and media literacy of media users themselves.

Nahla focused her speech on the influence of music and celebrities in the media, Gabriela spoke about the growing presence of “clickbait” whose titles are written so as to provoke intrigue in the reader and the desire to read the article. Ismir made a division of traditional and new media and explained their disadvantages and advantages.

In the interactive discussion, lecturers and participants discussed many issues such as how much investigative journalism is represented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whether can we recognize objective media today, how to protect our copyrights, what is the impact and consequences of misinformation on people and in general the impact of social media on youth.

At the end of the conference, we presented the future musical hope Anita Šunjić. You can watch her work at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhOM74_AAqg
