On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, our members of the “Be Man Club Mostar” organized a street action on the Spanish Square in Mostar. The aim of the street action was to point out the problems that are still present in our society when it comes to gender equality and to encourage people to take certain steps that would lead us to equality in society.
The whole street action consisted of the participation of citizens in a quiz that was consisting of questions related to the position of women in society. As a reward for participating, each citizen got a treat. In addition to the quiz, citizens had opportunity to write messages to women around the world on posters. “Be persistent, brave, hardworking and confident. You are a woman, you can do anything ” was one of the messages.
“Be Man Club” members and volunteers of the NGO Youth Power had the opportunity to talk to citizens about the current position of women in our society. Unfortunately, a lot of people think that women are still not equal and think that this will be difficult to change, especially in our community. That is why we believe that it is necessary to highlight the achievements of women every day and build a diverse and inclusive world.
Youth Power has been conducting workshops and training courses on gender equality for many years, and every year on International Women’s Day we try to raise awareness of the importance of this day and the fight for equality in society.
The activity was implemented within the project Young Men Initiative III (YMI): “Promoting Healthier Lifestyles and Decrease of Interpersonal Violence among Youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina by Challenging Gender Stereotypes III“, supported by the Swiss Government, Oak Foundation, Austrian Development Agency and CARE International Bosnia and Herzegovina.
